Fitting it in

Posted: November 13, 2012 in Uncategorized

There are so many things that we are supposed to do to keep ourselves and our families balanced.

  • 30 minutes of physical exercise everyday for everyone.
  • Floss your teeth.
  • Time with each child on their own.
  • Date night.
  • 10 servings of fruit or vegetables.
  • Time for yourself.
  • Friends.
  • Community involvement.
  • Personal prayer time.
  • 8 hours of sleep a night.

The list can go on forever. So how does it all fit in to the 24 hours we have in a day? Or even the 7 days in a week?

The answer is that we can’t. There is no way to do everything that every expert says we need to do to keep ourselves and our families healthy and balanced.

The solution is to maintain balance. Not everything can be done every day. And not everything can be done all the time. So we have cycles in our life. For several weeks in a row, we will manage time with each child alone. Then that time in the week becomes date night for a few weeks, or time for friends, or volunteering time.

The problem with this system is it does not allow for regular triathlon training. So at this point in the season, I will have to settle for irregular training, and trust that the balance will even things out before it is time to actually try the triathlon.
